JOB DESCRIPTION
A Medical Laboratory Technologist provides information for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease by conducting medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments, and analysis. This person perform normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting chemical analyses of blood, urine, spinal fludids , and gastric jucies. They must mantains safe and clean working enviroment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
EDUCATION
A Medical Laboratory Tecnologists generally reqiuire a bachelors degree, programs in Medical Technonlogy include a course in chemistry, bological sciences, mirobiology, mathematics and statistics, as well as courses designed to teach knowledge and skills, the course may be offered through a hospital- based program that students attend during their senior years of college. Many empolyers perfer applicants who are certified by a recognized professional association, such as the American Medical Technologist in particular are expected to be good at problem solving.
SALARY
The median annual wage of medical labarotory technologist was $56,130 in May of 2010. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in a occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned more than $38,810, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $76,780.
WORK HOURS
They work full time. Some work in hospital and some in independent laboratories. They may work weekends, or overnight hours. Federal Health Legislation will increase the number of patients who have access to health insurance, increasing patient access to Medical Care. As a result, demand for the service of laboratory presonnel will grow.
